Weekly Shonen Jump Exhibition

“Weekly Shonen Jump Exhibition VOL. 2 The 1990s” is currently displayed in Tokyo’s Mori Arts Center Gallery and it’s a must see for any manga or anime fan. If you like Slam Dunk, Captain Tsubasa, Rurouni Kenshin, Dragon Ball, Yu Yu Hakusho, Yu-Gi-Oh! or any other 90’s Shonen Jump hits, you would surely love this exhibition! It starts with a whole room papered with the original pages of the old comic books. We got to spend about 10 minutes in this room and then were invited for a short screening of… sorry, I won’t tell you, you have to go and see for yourself.

The gallery is located in the Mori Tower at Roppongi Hills, just beside the Mori Art Museum. An adult ticket price is ¥2,000. The exhibition runs until June 17th 2018, so you might want to hurry up. You can get more details about the venue, admission and how to get there at the official website http://shonenjump-ten.com/english.html.

If you won’t make it till June 17th, there will still be a 3rd part of exhibition, which starts a month after the current one. I am sure the “VOL. 3: 2000’s” exhibition will also be a staggering experience for any shonen manga and anime fan. Especially those who love Naruto, One Piece or Bleach. See official website for details about the “VOL. 3” http://shonenjump-ten.com/vol3/english.html.

Shonen Jump Goods Shop

Right after you exit the exhibition there is a gift shop where you can buy all sort of products featuring your favourite Shonen Jump characters. The assortment starts with obvious T-shirts, mugs, tote bags, keyrings, and coasters, but it’s not ending there, and you can definitely snatch some more interesting items like puzzles, figures or pieces of stationery. You can see a list of all the good (I think) that are available at http://shonenjump-ten.com/goods.htmlWe’ve got a stone coaster with Son Goku and a 1000 elements Dragon Ball puzzles. Hard to admit, but it’s been a month, but we still haven’t attempted to put them together, sigh.

Some goods with most popular characters were already sold out when we’ve been there at the end of April, so hopefully they are able to restock regularly. The shop introduces special, limited items on Mondays, which are not restocked when they sell out. If you didn’t managed to get what you wanted, I am sure they will supply plentiful of new goodies for the VOL. 3 exhibition.

Shonen Jump Cafe

Jump 90’s cafe

During the exhibition the Cafe THE SUN – a cafe located at the same floor is transformed to a themed cafe where guests can enjoy a special menu featuring characters from their favourite mangas. Each table is also decorated with different manga page-like designs.

We’ve ordered a Son Goku yellow curry, a Dragon Quest burger, and topped up with Frieza and Shenron deserts. Beside the cool appearance, the mains and desserts we’ve ordered were actually very tasty. You can see the cafe’s menu at https://art-view.roppongihills.com/jp/cafe-restaurant/news/2018/03/1048/index.html
