Tokyo train cafe

Train cafe in Tokyo

To build a cafe on a closed train station – what a brilliant idea indeed! The station does not currently operate, but the trains of Chuo line still pass by every few minutes. These trains are the gem of the place really. The most magical moment is when the trains going in opposite directions are passing by cafe’s big glass windows. In that moment children squick and laugh out loud, and adults, well… take photos.

If you are ever in Akihabara, Tokyo, you won’t regret visiting this cafe. It is located at the closed Manseibashi station, which part was developer into mAAch shopping centre in 2013. At the moment (February 2019) the cafe is called Platinum Fish Cafe and before that it used to be called N3331. Seams like the name (and probably the owners) change quite often, so just try to find a shopping centre first, and then go from there. You do not really have to enter the cafe to get to the platform, but the views are best from the cafe.

The food in cafe was decent, but not amazing. I guess the place it’s all about the views. We had pancakes with whipped cream and some soft drinks. Some other people had some bento style lunches which looked good and disappeared quite quickly from their table, so I assume those were satisfying.

Both times we have been there on Sunday morning, the cafe was not crowded at all. There were two other families with children and that’s it. Overall, great place for a chilled lunch, for sure. I can imagine afternoon snack there as well.
